This Girl Is On Fire: Victoria Duval Upsets Former @USOpen Champ Stosur, Becomes Instant Household Name
Victoria Duval shocked the world tonight, and my blog stats proved it. World #296 won a gutsy 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 battle against former US Open Champion and World #11 Sam Stosur in the first round of the US Open. I will try not to fill this post with just enough words to make it economically viable on the search engines.
I will just say: That. Was. Awesome. Vicky!
Duval faces the very beatable Daniela Hantuchova in the 2nd round. She follows in the footsteps of Madison Keys and Melanie Oudin as an upstart player who begins household recognition at the US Open. Duval is so relaxed that my expectations have naturally run high. I’m glad it will have no effect on her.
As you remember, Duval qualified by winning three straight matches in New York. Here’s a video of her first qualifying win last week.
In addition, today’s victories by two of this blogs All Time Favorites, Denis Kudla and Alison Riske, make Day 2 of the US Open one I’ll never forget!
