Kaylan Bigun (18; West Hollywood, Calif.) won the French Open boys’ singles title on Saturday, defeating Poland’s Tomasz Berkieta, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Bigun, who is currently ranked No. 6 in the ITF junior rankings, became the first American to win the boys’ singles title at Roland Garros since Tommy Paul in 2015 and only the fourth to do so in the Open Era. The Los Angeles-area native is committed to play college tennis next year at UCLA.
Also on Saturday, American Maylee Phelps (17; Portland, Ore.) partnered with France’s Ksenia Chasteau to win the junior wheelchair girls’ doubles title, while the American duo of Iva Jovic (16; Torrance, Calif.) and Tyra Grant (16; Bordighera, Italy) fell in the girls’ doubles final.
Coco Gauff will be looking to add to the Americans’ success in Paris tomorrow as she vies for the women’s doubles title.
