Gilbert’s Glossary Getting Thicker With Two More Entries by @BGTennisNation During @USOpen
As promised, US Open sponsor Voya Financial has released more of Brad Gilbert’s fun, short videos covering some of tennis’ slang terms. Having already covered Buggy Whip, Love, Sledgehammer, In the Kitchen, Can Opener and the Tweener during Wimbledon, Gilbert now covers two very familiar terms for tennis fans for the US Open, Paint the Lines and Bagels & Breadsticks.
Though we’re all familiar with those two, I have to admit, I didn’t exactly know what a can-opener or ‘in the kitchen’ was until I watched.
The eight videos are a refreshing take on tennis in advertising, as they actually educate the viewer. This is the best marketing concept in tennis in a long time. My only regret is that the videos are so short. I imagine that the producers believe what is probably true: that attention-spans are dangerously brief in the online world. But Gilbert is a funny man, and I’d like to see a full stand-up routine next year.
In “Tweener”, Gilberts says “now that I’m retired, the only tweeners I see are the ones hanging around at the food court at the mall listening to their Lady Gigis and Justin Geebers.”
Four more terms will be discussed by Gilbert throughout the US Open, including Moonball, Flatliner and Fearhand. Follow all the action here!
