Stadium Court will have to wait another day.

In a day reminiscent of the end of days, a sparse, sun-baked and devoted crowd watched four qualifiers advance at the CitiOpen Saturday with relative ease. All four of the matches lasted only two sets; only Liga Dekmeijere needed 1:50 to dispatch Tara Iyer 7-6 (4), 6-2; the other three matches averaged 75 minutes.  Average matchtime temperature was  approximately 100 degrees with high humidity. Alexandra Mueller of Abingdon, PA was the victor over Danielle Mills 6-2, 6-2. Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski sent American Eleanor Peters packing with a breadstick and a bagel 6-1, 6-0, and Whitney Jones finished off Valentini Grammtikopoulou 6-2, 6-2. The Stadium Court was not used for match play today, unless it was used for the last match, after we had safely retreated from the area. It was used for practices and awaits it maiden match. No word yet on tomorrow’s order of play.
