With eight matches today as opposed to four yesterday, The Tennis Center at College Park will finally take on the frenetic, simultaneous match mayhem and overall short-attention span theater that will make this tournament finally feel like the real deal.

Ellicott City’s Bea Capra, who is inarguably Maryland’s tennis savior (we are fickle), takes the Court for the first time at CitiOpen today, where she will face Katie Ruckert. In other Maryland action, Bethesda’s Skylar Morton will try to avoid being bedazzled by Asia Muhammed’s diamond-studded racquet.

Fellow Americans Madison Brengle and Whitney Jones will square off. Sachia Vickery will meet Slovakian Petra Rampre to break in Stadium Court. Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski faces Australian Tammi Patterson, and Latvian Liga Dekmeijere takes on Japan’s Ryoko Fuda. American Lauren Albanese faces German entrant Kim Grajdek, and #1 seed Julia Cohen of Philadelphia will engage in intra-state warfare with Alexandra Mueller of Abingdon, PA.

Now this is a tournament!
