Every once in a Blue Moon, the gods harmonically converge our two favorite things: tennis and beer. Legg Mason’s annual Night at the Net happy hour is one such sacred experience.

Why wait for Food when there's no wait for Beer?

Last night’s affair was attended by about 250. The food table was mobbed, but there was never a wait of more than ten seconds for a Corona or Negra Modelo. While we question our fellow revelers priorities, we do appreciate their appetites. The sliders received the highest marks.

Mix 107.3 Jack Diamond sidekick Aly started the trivia portion of the evening with questions so ridiculously easy that the writers must have thought everyone had been drinking all day. “What country is Corona from?” and “How many Coronas are in a case?” made us look for the trick in the question. Alas, no tricks.

Flight of the Beanbags

The Corona cornhole boards with USTA Mid-Atlantic beanbags provided entertainment for the guys, mostly, while the ladies seemed to control the ping-pong table.

Rising Stars on the Drinking Circuit?

When the real entertainment showed up, the trivia questions got immensely harder. It was like a big hustle. Just when we thought we could nail any question, Bob Bryan asked a question like “How many Rhodes Scholars are on the faculty at the University of Chicago?”. Equally baffling to the imbibers was Mike Bryan’s brain-bender: The name of the first album of the Bryan Brothers Band (“Let it Rip”). Wayne Bryan loves a microphone, and we love him on the microphone. He emceed the affair for the duration of the Bryans visit.

Don't go there!

The Bryans were absolutely mobbed by the crowd. They signed a lot of autographs, but didn’t think of mingling with the masses. That was a good move on their part, because the fans would have kept them there all night. After all, the Brothers have to play today.
