Capra will always belong to Maryland

Ellicott City’s Bea Capra, a Tennis Maryland favorite, posted her first dual singles victory of her brief college career on Thursday at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California. Capra beat Stanford’s Nicole Gibbs, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. After besting  seventh-ranked Gibbs,  Capra conquered #16 Danielle Lao, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 early yesterday.

MARYLAND IS CAPRA COUNTRY

Later on Friday, Capra met her match (for now) in the Quarterfinals, going down in straights to Florida’s Allie Will, ranked #2, by a count of 2 and 4.

Capra’s tear into the quarterfinals assured her a spot at the 2011 ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships four weeks from now at Flushing Meadows. Tennis Maryland is confident that Capra will make it up in style for missing a trip to Flushing Meadows last August.  The only Blue Devil we’ll ever cheer for has a long career ahead of her at Duke and we’ll keep an eye on her for you, so that your significant other doesn’t accidentally find “Duke University” all over your internet cache. Mistakes like that could make a Maryland marriage falter.
