As I sat around enjoying streaming video of a compelling Australian Open Women’s Wild Card Playoff Final from Melbourne Park yesterday, I noticed the following ridiculous video advert in between the sets:

Intrigued, I found the link to changingends.com.au  for the Australian Open Short Film Festival video contest. Top prize is $5,000 Australian ($5,109 US) and the theme of the videos is “the essence of tennis”. As you can see from the following entries, it looks like the youth movement brought their A game.

If that was really produced by 15/16 year-olds, they should win. Now let’s get to funny.

For video-gamers and smoothie lovers, there is this entry:

Then there’s the obligatory entry of cute tennis romance:

Nearing the bottom of the juniors division is a kid who bears a striking resemblance to Eddie Monsoon from “Absolutely Fabulous” in the video still:

Like always, the adults have to go and ruin everything, as you will witness in the video below. Pub humor still sells. Of course, the Australian Open had it coming when it asked fans to submit videos defining the essence of tennis. It will probably win, although my vote would go to the guy who blended the racquet and balls.

See the best and the rest for yourself at changingends.com.au or the AustralianOpenTV channel on the youtubes.
