Arlington, Virginia’s Denis Kudla survived a hard-fought victory in the opening round of the SAP Open in San Jose, California earlier today. The final score was 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3. Kudla, who qualified for the event, will face #2 seed Andy Roddick for a spot in the quarterfinals tomorrow night at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time as a featured night match. The two have never met in ATP play and couldn’t be at more different points in their career if they tried. The dueling Americans are 10 years apart in age and there are $20 million in career prize earnings separating them. Despite those stats, three-time SAP Open Andy Roddick could still be in for a wild ride against Dangerous Denis tomorrow.
