Though Arlington’s Denis Kudla could hardly be considered old at 19, the above video from three and a half years ago via ProPhotoVideo feels so vintage with the music and the grainy quality which barely shows Kudla’s face. Still, the training by Frank Salazar was pretty intense, so it’s no surprise that Kudla is about to crack the top 200 for his highest career ranking in a very steady rise. He hit some very hard liners and solids serves in San Jose, knocking off Novikov and Simmonds in qualies and Jack Sock in the main draw before finally losing to Andy Roddick in a close one in the round of 16. He’s one win away from the main draw at the Regions “Morgan Freeman” Championships. If he beats Rob Kendrick tomorrow afternoon, look out, Memphis!
