Sunday was another hot day in the Nation’s Capital, and those who could stand the heat took advantage. Qualifier Michelle Larcher de Brito won her first round match against Mirjana Lucic, while Genie Bouchard, who won her very first WTA match at CitiOpen last year, advanced against Karin Knapp. Taiwan’s Kai-Chen Chang was also a winner.
On the mens side, Jesse Levine took care of Robby Ginepri in a third set tiebreak on Stadium Court, Chiudinelli and Serra won their matches and Michael Russell somehow advanced again.
In doubles, Stephens/Chakvetadze, Falconi/Scheepers and Lee-Waters/Moulton-Levy advanced.
