Eight is Enough: Djokovic Denies Nadal at Monte Carlo

Novak Djokovic upset Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-6 to take the title in Monte Carlo, his first there. Previously in the week, a still cautious Djokovic defeated Mikhail Youzhny and Juan Monaco in 3 sets before rolling past Jarkko Nieminen and surprise semifinalist Fabio Fognini. Fognini had upset Andreas Seppi, Tomas Berdych and Richard Gasquet en route to the semis.
Nadal was denied his 9th MC title but did beat Marinko Matosevic, Phillip Kohlschreiber, Grigor Dimitrov in 3 sets and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Tsonga beat Stan Wawrinka, who had shellacked Andy Murray in the previous round to make the semis.
Julian Benneteau and Nenad Zimonjic beat the Bryans to take the doubles title.
