
Svitolina joins Daniil Medvedev, Nick Kyrgios, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Andy Murray, Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, Victoria Azarenka, Karolina Pliskova, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daria Kasatkina and more join unprecedented player field for the first combined ATP-WTA 500 level event.
Elina Svitolina had a nearly flawless fortnight at Wimbledon before falling to Marketa Vondrousova at SW19 in the semifinals today. Her next stop is the Mubadala Citi DC Open, the only combined ATP-WTA level tennis tournament in the world. Last week, tournament announced its preliminary main draw player fields for the 2023 tournament, which features eight of the world’s top 10 players, three Grand Slam champions, four former World No. 1’s, five past D.C. winners and 14 American players. The 54th tournament will take place July 29 – August 6 in Washington, D.C. at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park. The event, which recently combined with the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic to create the Mubadala Citi DC Open, is the fifth largest professional tennis event in the United States.
“We have a fantastic deep field of players lined up to compete in the 2023 Mubadala Citi DC Open. The draw showcases Grand Slam champions, former World No. 1’s, Olympic Gold Medalists, top 10 players and some of the most exciting fan favorites in the game,” said Mark Ein, Mubadala Citi DC Open Chairman. “In less than a month, the world’s best players will be in DC for one of the biggest events of the summer. Main draw ATP player commitment highlights include 2021 US Open champion and World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev, 2019 and 2022 D.C. singles and doubles champion Nick Kyrgios, former World No. 1, three-time Grand Slam champion and two-time Gold Medalist Andy Murray, World No. 9 and 2022 Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz, World No. 10 and Washington, D.C. native Frances Tiafoe, 2021 US Open semifinalist and World No. 12 Felix Auger-Aliassime, three-time Grand Slam semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov, 2021 Miami Open champion and Wimbledon semifinalist Hubert Hurkacz and 2016 D.C. champion Gael Monfils (WC).

WTA field showcases World No. 7 and 2019 D.C. doubles champion Coco Gauff, World No. 4 and 2019 D.C. singles and 2022 doubles champion Jessica Pegula, former World No. 1 and two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka, World No. 5 and 2022 WTA Finals champion Caroline Garcia, World No. 8 and two-time Grand Slam semifinalist Maria Sakkari, World No. 10 and 2022 San Jose champion Daria Kasatkina, two-time Grand Slam finalist and former World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova, recent Eastbourne champion and 2017 US Open finalist Madison Keys and former World No. 3 and 2023 Roland Garros quarterfinalist Svitolina (WC).

The Mubadala Citi DC Open’s ATP 500 event will feature 48 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The new WTA 500 tournament will feature 32 singles competitors and 16 doubles teams. Additional players will join the main draws via wild card entry, to be announced in the coming weeks.

- Maria Sakkari, World No. 8: Maria Sakkari has had a strong start to the 2023 season. The top-ranked Greek has appeared in five semifinals in Linz, Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid and Berlin. She reached two Grand Slam semifinals in 2021 and became the first Greek woman to break into the Top 10 and qualify for the WTA Finals.
- Belinda Bencic, World No. 14: Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic secured two WTA titles in Adelaide and Abu Dhabi at the start of the 2023 season. The top-ranked Swiss holds seven WTA titles and is a US Open semifinalist and two-time quarterfinalist. This will be her first time playing D.C. since 2018, where she reached the quarterfinals.
- Liudmila Samsonova, World No. 15: Reigning Mubadala Citi DC Open women’s singles champion Liudmila Samsonova had a successful 2022 season, claiming both the Cleveland and Tokyo titles after her Washington win. This season, the 24-year-old reached the Abu Dhabi finals and the Libema and Bad Homburg quarterfinals.
- Hubert Hurkacz, World No. 18: In February, Hubert Hurkacz captured his sixth ATP title by winning in Marseille. This season he reached the semifinals in Stuttgart and the quarterfinals in Dubai. In 2021, the 25-year-old won the title in Metz, Miami and Delray Beach and was also a semifinalist at Wimbledon. This will be his fourth time playing in D.C.
- Madison Keys, World No. 18: American Madison Keys recently captured her seventh career title in Eastbourne. The 2017 US Open finalist has achieved a quarterfinals or better appearance at all four Grand Slams. Keys was part of the winning United Cup team this year with Pegula, Fritz and Tiafoe.
- Karolina Pliskova, World No. 19: Two-time Grand Slam finalist and former World No. 1, Karolina Pliskova will be returning to Washington D.C. for the first time since 2012. She holds 16 WTA titles and is also a 16-time WTA finalist. This season, she reached the quarterfinals in Melbourne, Doha and Stuttgart.
- Sebastian Korda, World No. 25: Sebastian Korda, the 23-year-old American, will compete in the Mubadala Citi DC Open for the third time in 2023. He reached the quarterfinals in Washington in 2022. This year marks 31 years since his father, Petr Korda, captured the D.C. title in 1992. This season he reached the Adelaide International 1 finals, the Queen’s Club semifinals and the Australian Open quarterfinals.
- Alexander Bublik, World No. 26: Returning to Washington for the third time, Alexander Bublik recently captured his second ATP title in Halle. The 26-year-old also reached the semifinals in Marseille this season.
- Yoshihito Nishioka, World No. 27: Last season, Yoshihito Nishioka captured his second ATP title in Seoul and was the 2022 D.C. finalist. As the No. 1 ranked Asian player, he reached the fourth round in both the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year, as well as the semifinals in Adelaide.
- Denis Shapovalov, World No. 29: Canadian Denis Shapovalov had a successful 2022 season, reaching the semifinals in Dubai and the quarterfinals in Melbourne, Doha and Rome. The 24-year-old is a 2021 Wimbledon semifinalist and 2020 US Open quarterfinalist.
- Daniel Evans, World No. 30: The 2022 D.C. quarterfinalist Daniel Evans will return to the nation’s capital for the sixth time in 2023. His current season includes a semifinals appearance in Barcelona and Marrakech. In 2022, he reached two semifinals in San Diego and Montreal and three quarterfinals in Vienna, Antwerp and D.C.
- Christopher Eubanks, World No. 43: Christopher Eubanks recently captured his first ATP career title in Mallorca. The 27-year-old American also had a quarterfinals berth in Miami. This will be his fifth appearance in Washington.
- J.J. Wolf, World No. 48: The 24-year-old American is returning to Washington for his third time after reaching the quarterfinals in 2022. His 2023 season includes a semifinals appearance in Dallas and a quarterfinals appearance in Eastbourne.
- Mikael Ymer, World No. 59: Mikael Ymer reached the quarterfinals in Eastbourne, Marseille and Adelaide this season. He reached a career-high ranking of World No. 50 in April, becoming the first Swedish player to break into the Top 50 since Robin Söderling in May 2012.
