USTA Player Development General Manager Patrick McEnroe told the media on Friday that while he personally harbors no ill feelings for Alex Bogomolov’s jump to Russia to play for the Kremlin’s Davis Cup team, he did indicate that the USTA is looking into requiring him to reimburse American tennis for their exhaustive support of his career to date. Was McEnroe convincing in stating that he personally didn’t care about Junior’s decision? Judge for yourself. The entire twenty minute press conference may be viewed below, and includes Madison Keys, Robby Ginepri and Gail Brodsky.

I understand that Nadal’s camp libboed hard to ensure that Rafa did not play on any of the outside courts. Dimensions of the court were too small. As for the Woz thing, it is interesting that once she started using it, she started to play better, or is it that Sveta started to play even worse. Who knows. All I know is that at 6-5 in the second when Sveta got broken, I turned off the tv and went to read a good book.I have no sympathy for Stosur and Kiri. You know why. Years ago when Venus put her foot down in Australia when she was asked at the 99th hour, fans were of the view that she should have agreed to move. They ripped her into it. Reading what Stosur had to say about the lack of communication between the players and the USTA about the move, I can see why the officials could not give a rat’s ass as to whether they played their match or not. Except for Venus and to a lesser extent Serena most of the women on Tour have no clue what it means to stand up for themselves. Once they know how to do this then I will feel sympathy for them. Until then, they can put them in the parking lot for all I care.

I’m not a huge fan of today’s American tennis; Roddick is the last American I ralely liked.I think the problem is not the “lack of talents”. If you can play, then you can improve. It’s living up to the expectation the media is putting on them that causes major disappointment. I mean, every time I click on a Wikipedia article of an American up-and-comer, I always see, “Already labeled to be the next Roddick or Davenport.” And what brought that up? A win at a challengers/futures event that nobody REALLY cares about. They get WC or direct entry into GS or MS draws and the bow out in the first rounds against non-American unknowns. I don’t see del Potro being labeled as the “next Nalbandian” or Stan Wawrinka, when he was not yet a top 10 player as the “next Federer”. Look at James Blake. Took him long enough to FINALLY show what he’s capable of. Roddick, now… he’s a real talent. There was a time when the US players were REALLY good. Now, it seems as though the Spanish are overtaking them, if not already. As for the Women’s tour…. I’m not a huge fan of it either. What is an “upset” for the media doesn’t come as a huge surprise for me. It’s an open field: no REAL number ones who have the staying power, no one with that BIG shot (apart from Safina’s backhand lately)… pretty much, if you’re VERY pretty, you have potential to be a top player even if you’re not very good so to speak. *cough*Vaidisova*cough*And even if you’re good, nobody will notice you anyway.

Does anyone know how it worked out w/o problem (as far as I know) for Delic? Was he not supported by USTA? I know Delic went to Illinois, but before he went to college, was he not trained under USTA at all?
It just seems to me that if Bogomolov switched his representing country while he was still lower rank, I’m thinking no one really said anything…or is it because Russia…
Anyway, thank you so much for all these videos and recaps.LikeLike
