It Always Comes Back To Rory: Caroline Wozniacki at Every Single Press Conference
I love local sports reporters. Don’t get me wrong. But if I were Caroline Wozniacki, I’d get so sick of questions about my significant other at every single press conference that I would adopt a No-Rory Rule. This happens in Charleston and New Haven and every other tournament where she’s a top seed. Last year, the romance was newish. This is old news now, gum shoes. But with each McIlroy win, some reporter somewhere loves to stoke the last newsworthy embers of the Caro Loves Rory Love Story for a nifty quote.
I’ll bet Rory McIlroy fields less than half the questions that Caro does about Rory.
Why?
- Maybe the local sports “guys” don’t really follow women’s tennis and they talk about the sport they do know?
- Maybe it’s because he’s still winning major tournaments?
- Maybe in some twisted way, it seems more “natural” to ask a woman about her boyfriend than it does to ask a man about his love life?
- Maybe since golf gets better TV ratings than tennis, the press wants to turn a pro tennis press conference into a PGA Wives and Girlfriends Event?
- Maybe it’s a nice and lazy two-fer for sports editors to ‘cover’ two sports at once?
Whatever the reason, I am so bored of it. I hope Wozniacki wins the US Open so the general sports media have better questions to ask.
