Murray Makes Push for World #1 Ranking with Shanghai Title

Andy Murray is making a push for the world #1 ranking at years end and his victory in the Shanghai Masters helps his cause tremendously. Murray didn’t lose a match or drop a set in Asia this year, as he defeated Steve Johnson, Lucas Pouille, David Goffin, Gilles Simon, and Roberto Bautista Agut for the title. The surprise Masters finalist RBA beat Bernard Tomic, Taylor Fritz, Viktor Troicki, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and the current #1 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals to complete a miracle run to the final. Djokovic was frustrated throughout his adventure in Shanghai, and results in Paris, and at the World Tour Finals will determine who ends up with the year end #1. Murray is playing some of the best tennis of his career.
John Isner and Jack Sock beat Henri Kontinen and John Peers to take home the doubles title. When it comes to the race for London, Gael Monfils and David Goffin improved their chances of qualifying, while Rafael Nadal, Tomas Berdych, and Dominic Thiem were left stagnant.
