Wozniacki will compete in Charleston for the fifth time in 2017, where she holds a 14-3 record. She was a finalist in 2009 and won the title in 2011.
The former World No. 1 is currently having a resurgence during the second half of the 2016 WTA season, after enduring injuries earlier in the year. Currently World No. 17, she will finish her ninth-straight season in the Top 20.
“Caroline plays very well on the green clay in Charleston,” said Eleanor Adams, Volvo Car Open Tournament Manager. “She is one of the most talented and charismatic players on the Tour, spending two seasons at World No. 1. Our fans will be so excited to watch her compete again next April”.
The 2017 Volvo Car Open will be Wozniacki’s first time playing Charleston since 2013.
“I’m very pleased with my past results in Charleston,” said Wozniacki. “The feel of the tournament is very relaxed and I always enjoy playing there. I’m looking forward to visiting again in April and hopefully winning the title again!”
Wozniacki was a finalist at the 2009 and 2014 U.S. Opens and the 2010 WTA Tour Championships in Doha. She won the title of WTA Newcomer of the Year award in 2008, and was World No. 1 in 2010 to 2011, where she won 12 titles combined during the two seasons.
