Citi Open: One on One Video with Rhyne Williams on his First Washington Appearance
Rhyne Williams came off a first round main draw win in Atlanta to have to face Robby Ginepri, a man he has looked up to on the ATP tour. After having dinner with Ginepri in Washington on Friday night, Williams dispatched Ginepri in 3 sets on Saturday in first round qualies. Ginepri also had a main draw wild card in his hometown of Atlanta, but was also required to qualify in DC.
Williams and Ginepri knew each other’s games well, having played six times in professional matches, but Williams is a stranger to playing tennis in Washington. He was impressed with the humidity, but feels like he thrives on any hard court. He’s also used to going from main draw to qualies to challengers. Such is life on the tour.
The #2 qualifying seed, Williams will attempt to get into the DC main draw today and will face Sam Groth on Stadium Court.
